Joel Sartore- Photo Ark - Found only in New Guinea, single-wattled cassowaries play a critical role

Found only in New Guinea, single-wattled cassowaries play a critical role in their rainforest homes as gardeners for hundreds of plants! Because their digestive tract is relatively short, their droppings contain fruit seeds that are only partially digested. Tests have shown that the seeds that make the journey through this bird’s digestive tract are much more likely to sprout than those that simply fall to the ground on their own. Just as these birds rely on the rainforest, the future of the forest relies on cassowaries.
