I took this picture of The Milky Way Galaxy from the Makgadikgadi Pan, a salt pan situated in the middle of the dry savanna of north-eastern Botswana. The Milky way is really our home galaxy in the universe. The centre of it, which is located about 26,000 light-years from Earth, contains at least one supermassive black hole. The Milky Way began forming around 12 billion years ago! Makgadikgadi Pan is one of the largest salt flats in the world. The pan is all that remains of the formerly enormous Lake Makgadikgadi, which once covered an area larger than Switzerland, but dried up several thousand years ago. To stay over night out in this arid wilderness listening to lions and brown hyenas in a distance is nothing but spectacular!
