Getting close enough to wildlife for a clear shot through my lens takes an enormous amount of patience and the ability to lie in wait for hours, sometimes days at a time. I learned from an early age how to tread softly in the tracks of animals and never disrupt their day-to-day behavior. Sometimes, however, I get caught off-guard by an animal who has absolutely no regard for all my meticulous planning and tracking. As I was on my way to photograph wandering albatross in South Georgia for this baby fur seal suddenly came charging out from the tall grass with an attitude and confidence that far exceeded his size. I tried my hardest to stifle my laughter as I snapped a couple of shots and politely backed away. His courageous little heart won me over instantly and the surprise encounter reminded me to pay closer attention to the hidden pockets of our planet’s wilds. #southgeorgia #furseal #natgeo #humbled #attitude
